TONLY’S DTE145 SWAPPING BATTERY ELECTRIC HAUL TRUCK IS SET TO SERVE THE GLOBAL MINING GIANT RIO TINTO

16 Nov 2024

Recently, the “Celebration Ceremony for SPIC Qiyuan & Tonly · Rio Tinto’s First DTE145 Swapping Battery Electric Haul Truck” took place at the Xipo Base of Tonly. The 91-ton DTE145 Wide-body Mining Truck, another significant milestone in the collaboration between Tonly and SPIC Qiyuan, will offer safer, more efficient, and more environmentally friendly engineering transportation solutions for the mining giant Rio Tinto.

As a global leader in mineral resource exploration, extraction, and processing, Rio Tinto has made low-carbon transformation a central strategic focus, aiming for a 50% reduction in operational emissions by 2030 and achieving net zero emissions by 2050. The implementation of a pilot project for battery-swapping electric mining trucks in its operations represents a crucial step toward its carbon reduction objectives.

In recent years, as new productive forces propelled by technological advancements and industrial innovation, new energy and intelligent technology have become pivotal in the upgrade of the transportation industry chain. Tonly is committed to advancing the research, development, and application of new energy and intelligent technologies, thereby contributing to the sustainable development of the mining transportation sector.

As early as 2015, Tonly embarked on a path toward automation and sustainability, successfully launching the industry’s first lithium titanate battery-powered wide-body vehicle. To date, Tonly has established a comprehensive, safe, and eco-friendly intelligent new energy product system through a combination of pure electric, battery-swapping, hybrid, hydrogen fuel, and drive-by-wire technologies.

In 2019, Tonly partnered with SPIC Qiyuan, capitalizing on Tonly’s extensive expertise and competitive edges in product technology, supply chain systems, manufacturing processes, and market services within the mining engineering transportation sector. Leveraging Qiyuan’s advanced technologies and high-quality energy service capabilities in the realm of “green electric transportation,” the two companies united their strengths to focus on the R&D of pure electric products and solutions. This collaboration has progressed from the initial 70-ton model to the recently launched 91-ton DTE145 wide-body mining truck. The product has already been deployed in several large open-pit coal mines in China, and the DTE145 will soon be utilized in copper mines in Mongolia, heralding a new chapter in their partnership to serve international mining enterprises.

The DTE145 is a next-generation off-road transport vehicle jointly developed by Tonly and SPIC Qiyuan, embodying high reliability, long lifespan, high efficiency, low emissions, and high safety features. It effectively aids the global mining industry in its carbon reduction efforts.

High Reliability

Featuring a rigid welded frame, a full hydro-pneumatic suspension system, A-frame guidance, a large-capacity battery-swapping system, a permanent magnet synchronous drive system, and a three-speed gearbox, the mean time between failures (MTBF) has been significantly increased to 800 hours.

Long Lifespan

Originally designed with a focus on rigidity, the frame undergoes multiple optimization rounds through CAE simulations, with safety factors in critical areas exceeding three times. The use of key components from mining vehicle chassis ensures a design lifespan of no less than 10 years.

High Efficiency

With pure electric drive, it achieves a minimum speed of 15 km/h on an 8% incline and a maximum speed of 50 km/h, complying with mining vehicle operational standards. The dual-cylinder lifting system minimizes unloading time.

Low Emissions

The SPIC Qiyuan mining truck’s 800 battery system meets the demands of heavy loads, complex transport scenarios, and high endurance, even in environments with significant temperature variations. When powered by green energy, it can achieve near-zero emissions, bringing annual carbon reductions exceeding 250 tons per vehicle.

High Safety

Equipped with a FOPS & ROPS certified cabin, the vehicle employs full hydraulic steering along with an emergency steering system, and an integrated electric-hydraulic braking system to ensure high operational safety.

In the future, Tonly will maintain its focus on the objectives of “safety, efficiency, sustainability, and intelligence” in mining construction. Committed to advancing research and innovation, and adopting an open and inclusive approach, it aims to lead the industry while providing clients with high-value, safe, and reliable green intelligent mining transportation solutions, thereby continuously enhancing product value for users. Tonly is confident that with continuous technological progress and the expansion of application scenarios, new energy and autonomous driving products will consistently lead the mining transportation sector toward a more promising future.
